Pray for the peace of Jerusalem

May they prosper who love you

The Law Giver

Despite man’s attempt to contradict the Bible, there is no viable explanation to the Creation other than the Biblical account.  God spoke everything into existence and holds it together by His will.

Lawlessness

Last week we focused on Yeshua’s prophesy through Luke who gave us a unique perspective.

Now we return to Matthew and Mark as they continued to warn us of the signs that would be the beginning of sorrows which were to come and have come now in our lifetime.

The Diaspora

The devastation and destruction in 70 AD was horrendous but Yeshua warned it would get worse.

Warnings Fulfilled

God told us that we are not to take revenge, that vengeance is His.  There will come a day when He will judge and discipline His children Israel.

FLEE!

Fortunately, those Jews who believed Yeshua took His warning.

Historians report that they found refuge in Pella which was in Macedonia, Greece, birthplace of Alexander the Great.  History also shows that 1.1 million Jews were killed during the battle, but not one of Yeshua’s followers!

Supernatural Protection

God promised His children that death is not the end, but only the beginning of eternal life.  Those who have been redeemed and reconciled to Him by His grace through faith in Yeshua will never perish but have everlasting life in His presence.

Persecution

The destruction of the Temple and the Roman conquest over the Jewish people was confusing to the new Gentile church.  They questioned why God would allow such horrible things to Israel, the people and the land He had chosen.  With their limited understanding of the Hebrew prophets, they reasoned God allowed it because the Jews had rejected Yeshua.  They tried to interpret Scripture by “the facts on the ground” instead of interpreting the facts on the ground by Scripture.  As a result, they incorrectly blamed the Jewish people for Yeshua’s death. *

BEFORE or Beginning?

We’ve seen that the Apostles had different perspectives as they recorded Yeshua’s answer about the “signs” of the future destruction of the Temple.

The Beginning of Sorrows

Yeshua’s warning that these were only the “beginning of sorrows” probably struck terror in the hearts of the Apostles.  So much more should we have the same response.

The word translated as “sorrows” can be described as “intolerable anguish, consuming grief, pain, travail.”  In other words, there is that much worse to come.
