When Jacob’s family first came to Egypt, the Pharaoh sent them to live in the area of Goshen, a fertile area in northern Egypt. This separation of the Jews was crucial, because by the fourth plague, God made a distinction between people. While the rest of Egypt suffered from the swarms of flies, the Jewish people in Goshen were untouched.
The Hebrew word used in this promise reflects more than just physical freedom; eventually it denotes a spiritual freedom. The word גאל [ga’al] is the action of the closest relative who pays a ransom for the one in bondage.
People in slavery or bondage of any kind are most concerned with one thing – freedom! They cry, “Get me out of here!”
God gave Moses 4 promises of deliverance. These promises are remembered during the Passover celebration meal, the Seder, through four cups of wine.
God first revealed Himself as “Father” through the Passover.
During the Passover event God revealed to Moses His memorial name. To best understand that awesome name we need to consider the context:
God warned Abraham that his descendants would be afflicted in a foreign land for over four hundred years (Genesis 15:13.) Life was good for Israel’s (Jacob) family but not for long:
Purim is the last on the yearly cycle of the biblical holidays. As winter fades our hearts turn to the spring when life bursts from the cold, hard ground. Actually the month of Nissan begins God’s calendar. On the 14th of the Hebrew month of Nisan we celebrate the first and most important of the feasts of the Lord – Passover.

God continued describing Himself to Moses reminding us that part of His goodness is His righteousness and justice. His holiness demands punishment for sin.
