February 17: Redemption and salvation

Many people confuse redemption and salvation. Although they are part of the blessing of faith in Yeshua, they are different.

Matthew 1:20-21

But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.  And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

Salvation   (יְשׁוּעָה) from (יָשַׁע) (σωτηρία sō-tā-rē’-ä ) is the continuous process of deliverance from sin, sickness, sorrow that comes from faith in the atoning sacrifice of Yeshua.

The Aramaic definition of the root gives us a wonderful image: “having room to breathe.”

Imagine being in a tight, restricted place, a place of bondage, a place of distress. Now imagine your bonds are broken and you are set free…you have room to breathe. This is the freedom that faith in Yeshua brings to the body, soul and spirit.

Romans 1:16-17a

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.  For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith…
