June 10: Jacob’s Trouble – The Nations

The Gentiles have sinned

The history of the relationship between Jews and Christians has been challenging on both sides. *  At the core of the problem is the belief that God has replaced Israel with the Church; that the blessings promised to Israel now belong to the Church but all the judgment remains on Israel.   Of course the Bible says the exact opposite.

If God could forsake His firstborn son or break His promises, there would be no reason for Christians to trust Him.

The argument of this theology (called Replacement Theology) is based on many of the Scriptures we have been praying through regarding the coming discipline of Israel. Yes God must discipline Israel for her sin, but that is only so He can bless her as He promised.

But God’s word doesn’t stop with His discipline of Israel.  God judges the Gentiles as well, and in fact even harsher.

So now we will consider the rebellion of the Gentiles which forces God to act and punish.

Psalm 14:1-3

The fool has said in his heart,
There is no God.”
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one.” (NKJV)

Romans 1:18-25

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. (NKJV)

[*The dialogue between Christians and Jews has improved and many Evangelical Christians do not believe in Replacement Theology]
