March 14: Redemption and salvation

Romans 11: 8

Just as it is written:

“God has given them a spirit of stupor,

Eyes that they should not see

And ears that they should not hear,

To this very day.”

The prophet Isaiah spoke to Israel during a time of crisis. Israel had witnessed God’s consistent deliverance from the enemy, yet just as consistently refused to acknowledge His hand. As a result God blinded their prophets and seers. God used Isaiah to plead, challenge and exhort the people to open their eyes and hearts.

Isaiah 29:10

For the Lord has poured out on you

The spirit of deep sleep,

And has closed your eyes, namely, the prophets;

And He has covered your heads, namely, the seers.

Before Isaiah, Moses also pleaded with Israel to recognize God’s hand as Shepherd, Father, Provider and Protector.

Deuteronomy 29:4

Yet the Lord has not given you a heart to perceive and eyes to see and ears to hear, to this very day.
