Shavuot (Pentecost) – The Second Harvest

Shavuot (Pentecost) – The Second Harvest

– The Second Harvest

Israel had to TAKE the land and KEEP it holy.  It was to be their possession to steward for God.  Shavuot is about “keeping” the land.

At sundown tomorrow,  Israel will begin to celebrate the 4th of the Levitical feasts.  This is the second harvest festival, the harvest of the summer crops, especially wheat, which ripens later than the barley of the spring harvest.

The Hebrew uses several names, including:

  1. Shavuot (weeks)
  2. Yom HaBikurim (firstfruits)

Our Greek based English Bibles also use several names:

  1. Pentecost
  2. Weeks
  3. Feast of the Harvest
  4. Day of First fruits

Shavuot comes 50 days after the second day of Passover thus connecting the two holidays.

Leviticus 23:15-16

(And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,) “And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed. Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall offer a new grain offering to the Lord.”

PROCLAIM GOD’S PROMISE OF A SECOND PENTECOST HARVEST OF JEWISH SOULS.
