Rarely does Lunchtime Prayer for Israel address current political events. We believe our power is praying God’s promises. However, when something of tremendous magnitude occurs we must recognize the implications.
On December 23 the United Nations passed a resolution condemning Israel’s building (settlements) on the Biblical land of Judea and Samaria. The United Nations considers this area “occupied” territory.
The President of the United States chose to abstain from voting rather than to veto the resolution, a change from US’s historic defense of Israel. The President has always been against the settlements, but this resolution goes much further, condemning Israel presence in any area which she won in the war of 1968. Practically that means, Jews are forbidden to go to the Wall or onto the Temple Mount.
In this situation, to abstain from voting is actually a “yes” vote, thus agreeing with nations that against Israel and actually rebelling against God. And rebellion against God brings with it terrible consequences.
Most of the world, and even some in the Church are ignorant of God’s unique relationship with Israel. This ignorance is really a spiritual blindness; if Believers are blind, how much greater is the blindness of the world?
Therefore, our prayers must be directed to bringing down that barrier of blindness
As we begin a new year, I suggest we review what the Bible tells us about Israel and her unique relationship with God.
