Here is the same phrase we saw in the first verses, this time translated as “mercy and truth.”  Now they are combined with God’s righteousness and justice.  These four characteristics are the foundation of God’s character. 

Psalm 89:14-18

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne;
Mercy and truth go before Your face.
Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!
They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance.
In Your name they rejoice all day long,
And in Your righteousness they are exalted.
For You are the glory of their strength,
And in Your favor our horn is exalted.
For our shield belongs to the Lord,
And our king to the Holy One of Israel.

The God of Israel is truly unique, ready to forgive through faith in Yeshua’s sacrifice.  We know that Israel will face some difficult times ahead, but it will be for God’s glory when He brings an end to sin and transgression (Daniel 9:24)
