In ancient days when people, or nations made covenants (contracts) they “cut” the covenant by sacrificing an animal. The blood of the sacrifice was a warning what would happen to either side if they broke the covenant.
God’s miraculous provision of water manifested His unique relationship with Israel as they walked through the desert for over 40 years.
God’s wrath upon unbelieving Israel will be worse than anything she’s ever experienced. Thus it is crucial that we pray and share the offer of God’s mercy through faith.
Paul’s answer revealed that there would be a time when God’s patience would end for both the Jews and the Gentiles.
When many in Israel rejected Yeshua, God increased their spiritual blindness. Would that be the end to Israel’s unique relationship with God?
As Paul points out again and again, God’s choice is the affect of His grace, not man’s works unto righteousness.
Paul slightly changes the words of God’s response as recorded in the Hebrew Bible:
Paul is speaking of God’s choice of the nation of Israel to whom He would give revelation and blessings. But this never meant that the entire nation would be saved.
God’s passionate, covenant-keeping love is balanced by His unchanging justice and holiness.
Only God can keep passionately loving a people that continue to reject and rebel against Him.
