September 5: God’s unique relationship with Israel
This is the last post in our series on the Fear of the Lord!
This is the last post in our series on the Fear of the Lord!
In Paul’s letter to the Romans, he quotes Psalm 36 as he argues that both Jews and Gentiles sin. Part of the complaint is that no one has the fear of the Lord.
Following Yeshua in the fear of the Lord leads to major life style changes.
The Fear of the Lord was fundamental to God’s unique relationship with Israel. The people were expected to respond to Him with awe and reverence and yet the #1 commandment was to love Him.
Jonah was given an assignment from the Lord, an assignment he didn’t want to accept. In rebellion he ran away, jumped onto a ship and went in the opposite direction.
The Fear of the Lord is the Fountain of Life
God chose Jerusalem as the city where He would put His name. It was and remains a destiny for no other city: past, present or future. The privilege would come with great responsibility, Israel had to steward the city in holiness.
Fear of the Lord Is a gift from God.
The Fear of the Lord was to be the motivation of the Law of Moses. God wanted the people’s love for and fear of Him to motivate them to obedience.
Fear of the Lord is grounded in our love and desire to obey God. Our behavior will change accordingly.
