Gathering and return of the Jewish people
When Israel disobeys God, He must discipline her by sending her out of the land. Nevertheless, He always promises she will return.

When Israel disobeys God, He must discipline her by sending her out of the land. Nevertheless, He always promises she will return.

We are seeing the fulfillment of this prophesy increasingly every year. There is a correlation to their return and their salvation. But there are still millions of Jews that have yet to come “home.”

God desires that “all Israel will be saved.” His promises seem to go against His actions, but reveals His patience, grace and mercy. He promises that Israel will be saved when they return to the land, but also that the Jews will be saved outside the land! Regardless, the people will return and be saved!

Today there are almost as many Jewish people living outside the land of Israel as in the land. But God has promised there will be a day when He will bring them back to serve and worship Him in righteousness and truth.

The Jewish people continue to return to the land of Israel from the four corners of the world; but still many remain outside the land. But there will come a day when God will bring them all back home.

God has a unique relationship not only with the Jewish people, but with the City of His name, Jerusalem!
Like a good father, God’s love for Israel had to include both blessing and discipline. His sending the people from their covenant land was evidence of His discipline; and His promise to bring gather them and bring them home was evidence of His love.

We don’t know from the context of Isaiah’s words what was the danger Israel was facing. Regardless, her desperate cry reminds God of His faithfulness in the past and His promise for the future.
This is one of the Psalms of Ascents sung when the worshipers would journey to Jerusalem for one of the festivals. From ancient time, even when the Jews were in captivity in Babylon, they longed for their home, their “promised land.”

Sadly as Israel celebrates her rebirth, our Muslim residents and neighbors call this day, “The Catastrophe.” But the rebirth of the nation is proof that the Bible is true and God’s promises are eternal.
