God not only made and keeps His promises to Israel, He also made and keeps His promises to the nations.
Israel, the Jewish people are God’s firstborn son, chosen to be His witness that the whole world will know Him.
God hates pride, in a person and in a nation. Ancient Assyria now includes parts of Iraq, Turkey, Iran and Syria, all Muslim countries. Once a proud nation, God will bring judgement and total destruction to these
God will finally punish Moab, modern Jordan for their ancient hatred of Israel.
God’s warning to the cities of the seacoast were only partially fulfilled as we see Israel possessing some of these areas. But there will come a day when God will drive out all the rest inhabitants of the seacoast for their treatment of Israel.
For the next two days, we are between Passover, a feast of the Lord, and several Israeli national holidays. The Lord’s timing is often hard to understand.
Before Jesus returns to the Mount of Olives, He first goes to Edom (modern Jordan) to avenge the ancient hatred against His chosen people. Among other actions against Israel, Edom refused Moses passage as the Jews traveled from Egypt to Canaan.
The relatives of Esau became the nation of Edom. The Edomites carried jealousy, bitterness and hatred down through the generations.
The description of this day of God’s vengeance is both descriptive and terrible; it is not something that we want to think about. But this is reality. It is the Lord’s grace that He warns us so that we can take action to pray.
In His love for all Gentiles, He extends patience, mercy and grace. Yet He is jealous for Israel, His first-born son. So there will come a day when God will avenge the treatment of the nations against Israel.
