God’s purpose and choice of Israel as His witness was for to be a light to the Gentiles. Through her, He would reveal to the Gentiles His character and His ways.
Overlooking Jerusalem today is a church called, Dominus Flevit Church which means “The Lord Wept.” Designed by an Italian architect named Antonia Barluzzi, the site of the church is traditionally believed to be the place where Jesus wept over the city.
Jesus had just challenged the scribes and Pharisees, accusing them of hypocrisy and failure. He became increasingly upset. Suddenly He turned from the religious leaders to His beloved city. His heart ached as He saw its present condition and what was to come.
