The command to restore and build Jerusalem was given to Nehemiah by King Artaxerxes in the year 445 BC (BCE). It is not a coincidence that the command to restore and rebuild Jerusalem was given in the month of Nissan, the same month that the Jews were set free from Egypt – the month of Passover.
Reminding ourselves of yesterday’s post, it is not surprising that in “that day” we will see the restoration of the land of Israel, the gathering and return of the Jewish people and the nations coming to Jerusalem to worship the King of Kings.
The context of this praise is the Messianic Age, when the Branch from the root (or rod) of Jesse rules and reigns from Jerusalem.
God’s plans for Israel will not be thwarted. He prophesied through Jeremiah, but fulfilled the prophesy through the secular Gentile king, Cyrus of Persia.
Yesterday we stopped in the middle of the verse, here is the rest:
God continues His message by warning the nations what He will do if they continue trying to take the land of Israel.
God’s words to Ezekiel are just as applicable today as they were thousands of years ago. God’s enemies have continuously tried to take the land promised to the Jewish people and claim it for themselves.
