As Father God recounts the birth of His firstborn son, He sees her as a forsaken daughter. He lovingly washed her and, as she grew, He clothed her as royalty, including giving her a crown.
Because of God’s love for all nations (the Gentiles), God chose Israel to be His witness so that all would know Him.
After assuring the prophet that God’s choice and blessing of Jerusalem will not fail, He shows the prophet the punishment He will pour on the nations who scattered Judah.
Israel doesn’t admit and therefore won’t repent from her sin. Like so many today, she will try to blame God when He punishes her.
We can almost hear God’s heartbreak. He questions Israel, challenging them to consider their unique privilege and relationship with Him.
God chose a specific place, a particular piece of land, on which He would put His name. He said that to this place, all the nations would come to worship Him. To fulfill that destiny and God’s purpose, the land and the people had to be holy.
Ezekiel continues to obey God’s orders and thus he sees the reality of God’s purposes…life after death
